About the Author
In A Sense Of Gratitude, Biren Banerjee celebrates the lives of his ancestors in an India that is long past but that echoes strongly in the modern world. He depicts vividly the realities of 19th-century village life in Bengal, the bustle of Kolkata at the opening of the 20th centuty – and the tension and anguish of Partition. Biren Banerjee is a respected orthopaedic surgeon based in Birmingham, who has always enjoyed reading, learning and travelling the world. Born in India, he has spent most of his working life in England. His wife is also a doctor. He has two grown-up sons, one living in London and the other in the United States.
